Family Camping with Kids – Cheap Cairns Tropical Getaway Fitzroy Island

We spent the night camping on beautiful Fitzroy Island, just a short ferry ride from Cairns, and honestly had such a great time.
Our campsite was only $39 for up to 4 people, making it a surprisingly affordable little island getaway. Because everything had to come over on the ferry with us, we packed light with just the essentials, our camping gear and plenty of snorkelling gear.
We spent the trip swimming, snorkelling, exploring the island and enjoying some family time in one of the most beautiful spots just off Cairns. The kids absolutely loved it — and just before we left, we finally spotted a turtle too!
If you’re looking for an easy family adventure, budget-friendly camping trip or something different to do around Cairns, Fitzroy Island is definitely worth adding to the list.
